Quote from Doug Elliott:- "The ... picture is from the only existing leaflet of the 16ft Mackerel Boat, probably the boat that started it all, this boat was later converted to have an additional plank and half decked to resemble a mini Lugger. I think there were only 2 built by Kelly and Hall when John Watkinson owned the boatyard at Newton Ferrers where my brother John worked, around about 1963 or 1964 if my memory serves me well. I do remember my brother telling me how he had some glue squirt in his eye when building them, the planks were glued and clench nailed, which was a very messy job. The attractive young lady in the picture is Kate Watkinson."
