Wooden Drascombes
John Watkinson
The Longboat Cruiser
Other derivations of the Drascombe line built in wood were the "Longboat
Cruiser" and the "Peterboat 6 metre" The "Longboat Cruiser"
had the same standard hull as the "Open Longboat" the cabin has a low
coachroof, 2 berths, on some 3 berths and facility for a small cooker.
The inside of the coachroof has no cross beams, this is made possible
by laminating the roof from 2 sheets of ¼ inch / 6mm plywood, again, one
of John Watkinson's innovations. You gain the strength without the weight
and an extra couple of inches of headroom because there are no beams.

The rig on the "Longboat Cruiser" is basically the same as the "Open
Longboat"; one option that could differ is the "Smack Rig" which is a
rig with a bowsprit and an additional flying jib, balanced with a larger
mizzen sail. This rig was also offered as an option on the "Drascombe
Lugger".
